The IPhone is able to play emu­la­tors, but you can thank Apple for loc­king the phone down. In 99.999% of cases as of right now, you will require to have your phone jail­bro­ken. Unre­la­ted to this article, I will bet that future Win­dows Phone and Goo­gle OS for pho­nes will take off in some man­ner over time due to the res­tric­tions pla­ced on the IPhone.  Back to the Article, one that is well known is SNES4IPhone and runs some games fairly decently.
