What is an Emulator?
There are still a lot of people out there who do not understand what an emulator is to this day, but it is self explanatory. An emulator that is primarily used on a computer is a program that emulates or acts like a device through the use of software. It is possible to actually play older games on a computer. The original makers of Nintendo and other hardware game systems do not typically create emulators. It takes a dedication of a team and many beta testers for games to work. Emulators do requires vast amounts of components in order for the software to work properly. It is possible to play Super Nintendo on an IPhone or a Windows Mobile phone. Many teams go out quick do to the vast frustration of resources, but does who succeed impact the world in small ways. For example, I have been able to play games that I legally own but do not play on my older systems because they are no longer working. Playing Final Fantasy VII or Chrono Trigger using a Super Nintendo emulator helps revive the member of these long lost games. With emulators rising always in popularity, game companies have been smart in porting their old games and allows gamers to play them on systems such as the Nintendo Wii. Imagine playing Final Fantasy IX on an IPhone one day?! For more detailed information, visit — Wiki (Emulator)

What are ROMS?
Reading throughout this page, if you are unfamiliar with what ROMS are, it basically stands for Read-Only-Memory. Lets that that you wanted to play a Playstation 1 version of Final Fantasy VII, you must download the game, which itself is known generally as a ROM. It is the original file of the game. When loading an emulator, it will ask for the ROM. Depending what the ROM is named, you load up the (assuming you legally have one) FF13 ROM into a PS1 Emulator and it will play(emulate) FF13 for you. You may be required to configure the emulator to be playable, but in general… keep in mind that a ROM is a file like any other file, but it is the game itself.
